Library Schedule of Classes
These are the assigned library times for each class; however, after our September break, first and second-graders have additional opportunities to visit the library to exchange books.

Check-Out Policy
Kindergarten - Students check out one book from the library each week that remains in their classroom. This gives them practice in selecting a book, learning the check-out process, and demonstrating good stewardship of the books. And, they will always have the book to return on their library day so that they will be able to get a new one.
First Grade - During the first six weeks of school, students can check out one book and can choose to take it home. After the first six weeks of school, students may have two books checked out.
Second Grade - Students may check out two books from the beginning of the year.
Book Care Reminders - Please review with your student
1. First and Second Graders may take their books home or choose to leave them in the classroom.
2. Ask your student about their books and read them together.
3. If your student carries a water bottle in their backpack, make sure the lid is tightly closed.
4. If your student attends an after-school program or rides the yellow bus, they should keep their library books in their backpack until they get home. I'm happy that they are excited to read their library books, but many books are lost this way!
5. Speak with your student about a safe place to keep the books in your house, especially if you have lots of other books. Ours always has a hardcover and a CSD or Winnona Park Elementary barcode on the back. They also have a "Winnona Park Elementary School" stamp on the inside cover.
Lost Books
I send email notices regularly so that you can see what books your student has currently checked out. Books are typically checked out for one to two weeks at a time. After that, I suggest looking for the book both in the classroom and at home. We charge a flat $10 fee for each lost book, but unless you are certain the book is lost, I suggest that we tag it as a lost book but continue to let your student check out additional books. Books tend to get moved around in the classrooms and often get returned by the end of the school year. If the book is still missing at the end of the year, you can pay a fine then. Fines can be paid by cash or check or online by credit card via Infinite Campus once the school year ends. If you have any questions or concerns about lost books, please do not hesitate to email me, Ilene Zeff at izeff@csdecatur.net.
