Greetings, Oakhurst Families!

I am proud and excited to begin my 24th year in CSD (and one year as a 5th grade teacher in Dekalb Co.)! During my first year in Decatur, I taught 2nd grade at College Heights, when the building was a PreK-5th grade school. For the next 3 years, I taught first grade and then transferred to Oakhurst as a 1st grade teacher for 10+ years. Then, I taught 2nd Grade for 8 years and have just completed two years as an Intervention Support teacher. I graduated from the University of TN-Knoxville, with a B.S. degree in Elem. Ed./Early Childhood Educ. Go, Vols! There, I participated as a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and also as a piccolo/flute player in the Pride of the Southland Marching Band. Go, Rocky Top! Years later, I received a Master’s degree in Reading & Literacy at Walden University and a Gifted Ed. endorsement. My greatest passions in teaching are laughing with students, watching them collaborate and share their unique perspectives, and dressing up in an array of costumes! Growing up as a military brat, I am now eagerly anticipating a new chapter this year as a Kindergarten teacher. I know this will be a wonderful opportunity to nurture and mold our youngest learners. Hooty, hoo!!

My only offspring, Justin, was a lifelong learner at CSD, as he started as a 4 year-old Frasier Center student all the way up through Decatur High. I am proud to say that he now a 24 year-old productive citizen of the working community! Finally, I enjoy spending time with Justin, playing word games, binge-watching movies, playing with Pepper, our black/white 12 year-old female cat (adorned w/ a very cute mustache), watching  SEC college sports, and shopping!
